Companies House guidance
As a result of the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, all of the Companies House offices in the UK (with the exception of Cardiff) are currently closed, and companies are encouraged to use the online service to submit their accounts and any other relevant filings. Any specific queries should be made via email (email@example.com) as the contact centre is also currently closed.
Companies House has published guidance for those companies that either have filed their accounts late or are expecting to file late as a result of coronavirus.
If a company is unable to file its accounts on time, it is possible to apply online for a three-month extension to the normal filing deadline, provided that date has not yet passed. However, companies that have already extended their filing deadline, or shortened their accounting reference period, may not be eligible for an extension. Further information on applying for an extension can be found on the GOV.UK website.
If a company does not apply for an extension and files their accounts late, it is possible to appeal any late filing penalty as a result of unforeseen and poor health caused by the coronavirus. Instructions on how to appeal the penalty can be found on the GOV.UK website.
For further detail on alternative filing instructions for specific paper forms, see the Companies House website.
